Never back down revolt11/11/2023 It’s a film about martial arts which has fight sequences at its core but once the film is over you remember none. Never Back Down: Revolt Centers on a woman who is kidnapped and forced to compete in elite underground fights and has to battle her way out to freedom. Watch out for the sequence when the girls kill him, it's gory and looks straight out of any Saw franchisee film. The film also has former UFC champion Michael Bisping and had the makers incorporated one fight sequence between him and Arslan, it would have certainly doubled the joy for die-hard fans of the series. As Jaya barring kicking a few butts, Neetu hardly gets to display her histrionics. The film also has an Indian presence with Neetu Chandra Srivastava as one of the fighter girls. After being lured by a criminal organization, amateur fighter Anya must compete in an elite underground fighting tournament or face death. b go back (or to parent when applicable) e go to edit page. The plot of the film is such that it never allows any actor to go beyond a certain limit and thus they look contrived. Never Back Down: Revolt (2021) R (US) Action 1h 29m User Score. It appears even the producers were sort of convinced about the film’s acceptance level and thus followed the digital and DVD release path instead of the theatrical route.Īs brother and sister, Olivia Popica and Tommy Bastow look very endearing and the relationship looks real. Never Back Down – Revolt follows a similar trajectory with cosmetic changes and in terms of plot novelty has nothing new to offer. It reminds one of the Blaxploitation genre of the 70s in which most films had a running theme of a group of enslaved girls fighting against the authority for their freedom. The only fresh aspect about the film is that the fourth film ventures into a new direction as opposed to the earlier films – this film is female-centric and it’s they who run the show. The plot is underwhelming and, thankfully, the less than 90-minute duration of the film saves you from further trauma. The plot is something that has been attempted numerous times in the past and now looks done to death. It fits the parameters of a typical B-grade film sans sex. The same cannot be said about the viewers as Never Back Down is an extremely average affair though not exactly torturous. If in the span of 13 years four such films have been churned out, it only means that the stakeholders of the film series have earned dividends from the films. REVIEW: Never Back Down – Revolt is the fourth film in the Never Back Down series. It’s a murky world that encompasses kidnapping and sex trafficking. When Anya travels to Rome to participate in a by-invitation underground fight at the behest of Mariah (Brooke Johnston), things are not as straightforward as it seems. While Arslan dreams of becoming an MMA Champion someday and earns his meagre livelihood by participating in fights, Anya on the other hand apart from doing odd jobs and studying also takes care of the home. Never Back Down: Revolt is raising the stakes for the series in a big way a little like the transition from the first to the second movies in the Best of the Best series, putting life, death, and freedom on the table with the old, trusted concept of an underground fight club.STORY: Never Back Down – Revolt is a martial arts action-drama and is about Anya (Olivia Popica) and Arslan (Tommy Bastow), immigrants from Chechnya, and now living in London. It's definitely a change for the Never Back Down series, but the franchise has already gone from a high school kid working out anger issues, to a group of college boys preparing for a tournament under a seasoned veteran, to that very mentor re-igniting his own MMA career. After aspiring MMA fighter Aslan (Tommy Bastow) refuses to throw a fight, he puts himself and his sister Anya (Olivia Popica) in hot water and deep debt. Revolt is bringing this concept into a series that has never used it before, while also injecting a fresh angle of kidnapped competitors fighting for their freedom. An amateur fighter (Olivia Popica) is lured by a trafficking syndicate specializing in elite underground fighting where her brutal captor (Michael Bisping) forces her to fight or face certain death. With Never Back Down: Revolt, the Never Back Down franchise follows the trajectory of the Best of the Best series, stepping into darker and deadlier territory with its fourth chapter. Underground fight clubs are a common trope in martial arts films, but despite being a bit of a cliche, they're still fun to see exploited to their fullest potential - especially when done well in movies like Muay Thai extraordinaire Tony Jaa's Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior.
